Filling with liquid and removal of air from a power steering hydraulic system

Air needs to be deleted from a hydraulic system if the hydraulic system was opened. It is necessary to fill a hydraulic system only with new liquid as even small pollution can lead to failures.

The type of liquid is given in Specifications. The possibility of use of other ATF liquids should find out from specialists of BMW.

1 Stop the engine and turn off a hydraulic system tank stopper.

2 Start the engine on single turns. At once fill in oil to the lower mark "MIN"-2-.

Operation of the oil pump without oil is not allowed.

3 Slowly turn a steering wheel to the left and to the right against the stop on two times in each party.
4 Double-check oil level in the tank. If necessary add oil.
5 Stop the engine and again check oil level.
6 Add oil to mark "MAX"-1-. Add oil small doses. The total amount of oil in a hydraulic system: 1.2 l.
7 Close the tank a stopper.
8 Oil level on the cold engine has to be between the marks MIN and MAX of the index of level. Oil is considered cold at a temperature of +20 °C.
