Removal and installation of the fan with the viscous coupling

320i, 323i, 328i with the conditioner

The fan with the viscous coupling is fixed on a shaft of the pump of cooling liquid. Together with the fan having the electric drive its task includes giving of enough air through a radiator.

The coupling of the fan needs to be replaced if the nave has teases and wear. At the same time the fan at the motionless engine does not rotate or rotates hardly. The coupling needs to be replaced also if the axial or radial gap is exceeded by 0.6 mm. For check it is necessary to move the fan in the longitudinal and cross directions. At the same time oil should not follow from a nave.


 REMOVAL

1 Remove a guide of the soaked-up air for what the small screw-driver take out clips.

2 Unscrew the fan from a nave of the pump of cooling liquid a key on 32 mm.

The nut of fastening has the left carving and for an otvorachivaniye has to rotate to the right (an arrow on an illustration).

At a nut otvorachivaniye the nave needs to be held from rotation by a maple belt. If the nut sits especially tight, it is possible to knock on a key with the hammer. HUNDRED BMWs are used for this purpose by the special tool by means of which the pulley keeps for heads of bolts. After a nut otvorachivaniye further it can be twisted by rotation of a krylchatka. You watch that the krylchatka did not fall. The fan is removed up.

3 Disconnect a krylchatka from the viscous coupling for what turn out screws (arrows on an illustration) and take out the coupling.



 INSTALLATION

4 Insert the viscous coupling into a krylchatka and fix it by screws the moment of 10 N • m.

For an exception of damage of a carving and the coupling do not tighten screws too strongly.

5 Fix the fan with the coupling on a nave of the pump of cooling liquid the moment of 40 N • m. At the same time hold a nave from a provorachivaniye for maple a belt or heads of bolts.

Do not warp a nut at installation.

6 Insert a guide of the soaked-up air and fix by clips.
