BMW 3 cars (E46)

The new model range of BMW of the 3rd series of the fourth generation, the factory designation "E46", appeared in April, 1998. This new Sedan on the level of the used technological developments, level of comfort and controllability came very close to more high-class cars. Standard equipment includes ABS, the traction control system, two safety cushions, a natyazhitel and the clamp of a seat belt established ahead head safety cushions, electric drives of window regulators and the radio tape recorder.

Cars can be completed with any of six engines, beginning from economic 4-cylinder for the Sedan 316i (the maximum speed of 200 km/h), the same 1.8-liter and finishing 6-cylinder 2.0, 2.3 and 2.8-liter, with system of gas distribution Vanos, and 5-staged RKPP or AT.
All engines have a longitudinal arrangement in a motive compartment and set back wheels in motion.

There was a model 320d (turbodiesel) dispersing to 100 km/h for 9.9 pages later. Thanks to increased by 60 mm to a track and on 30 mm to the wheel Sedan base it is very steady, however it caused modernization of a suspension bracket. Also the salon which is equipped with six auxiliary safety cushions is updated.

One year debuted two-door Compartments of 323 Ci and 328 Ci later. Designers managed to facilitate visually initially quite massive body, having kept "thin" average racks. Glasses of doors are issued on American manners - without framework. Back side glasses do not fall, and turn only a little. Back seats for increase in space of a luggage carrier can be put, the steering wheel and the lever of the check point are fitted by skin. Top of a model range of the 3rd series - the Compartment of M3 with the engine of 342 hp.

At the end of 1999 after the Sedan, the Station wagon and Coupet of the third series the concern prepared a cabriolet for production. "Three" with soft top is made on the basis of Coupet, however a door, back wings and the back panel of a body found other plasticity - the cabriolet looks prompter, dynamic. The folding top is put away in a special container, and at desire (for example, during the winter period) this container can be removed and installed easily a rigid roof which is offered at additional expense.

The increased intervals of maintenance allow to cut operational costs. For example, the interval of replacement of oil can make up to 30 000 km depending on the mode of use of the car.

Various electronic systems increase comfort of passengers. Memory of individual settings of the equipment and a key belong to such systems, for example. By means of the first the main functions of setup of the uniform lock, internal and external lighting, and also the conditioner are established by the owner of the car. In remembrance a key allows to hold settings of four drivers of the car having an own key. Thanks to it automatic configuration of provision of a seat when opening the uniform lock is possible. Besides, the uniform lock can be programmed in such a way that doors, after start-off from the place, are automatically blocked.

There is a wide choice and other systems of comfort installed as the additional equipment: xenon lamps, automatically darkened rear-view mirror, the conditioner, continuous control of pressure of air in tires, a screen wiper with the rain sensor, the navigation system and the TV.
The conditioner is included in a basic equipment of 6-cylinder models.

Traffic safety increases thanks to ABS existence. At sharp braking on turns the control system improves controllability and stability of the car. As special addition there is a system of dynamic stabilization of stability of DSC which reacts to the beginning of emergence of a drift of the car and counteracts it by means of snubbing of certain wheels.

On models with the four-wheel drive (325xi, 330xi, 330xd) the rotating moment of wheels is distributed between forward and back wheels in a constant proportion of 38% and 62% by means of interaxal differential and system of automatic differential braking of ADB.
