The car can be equipped with the line 4-cylinder petrol engine, the 6-cylinder petrol engine or a 4-cylinder turbodiesel. The power unit is located along the car and is taken out by the special crane up.

The 4-cylinder petrol M43TU engine of 1.9 l – two-valve, with the verkhneraspolozhenny camshaft. The camshaft is given to rotation by a chain. Valves are set in motion through a roller yoke. For compensation of vibration of the engine two balancing shaft located under a bent shaft serve. The drive of valves – roller. An inlet path with a changeable length of DISA.

Model 320i, 323i, 325i, 328i, 330i

The 6-cylinder petrol M52TU engine has a head of cylinders and the block of cylinders from aluminum alloy. Alloy has the improved heat conductivity and smaller weight in comparison with cast iron. the 4-valvate head of cylinders has two camshafts with the drive from a chain with the mechanism of regulation of VANOS camshafts. At the same time both camshafts depending on speed and loading of the engine turn rather corresponding asterisk so that to receive the optimum moment of opening of valves. The knot copes from the engine monitor.

Model 320d


In a 4-cylinder turbodiesel of M47 two camshafts with the top arrangement have the chain drive and influence valves through a roller yoke. The second chain sets the fuel pump of high pressure in motion. The drive of valves – roller. The diesel engine has a turbo-supercharging with changeable geometry of the turbine (VTG) and cooling of nadduvayemy air. The head of cylinders is made of aluminum alloy. The engine is supplied with the oxidizing catalytic converter and system of recirculation of the fulfilled gases.

Model 330d


The 6-cylinder turbodiesel of M57 is characterized by exclusively high torque thanks to the general pressure head highway (common rail) of high pressure on which fuel to nozzles moves. The head of cylinders is made of aluminum alloy. The engine is supplied with the oxidizing catalytic converter and system of recirculation of the fulfilled gases.

Are supplied with hydrocompensators of valvate gaps.

Lubricant of engines is carried out by the oil pump which at 6-cylinder engines (320i, 323i, 328i) settles down in a forward part of the pallet of a case and is given to rotation by a chain from a bent shaft. At models 316i, 318i the oil pump is located in a cover of a box of the distributive mechanism on the end of a bent shaft and connected to it through shlitsevy connection. The sucked-in oil arrives through openings and on pipelines to bearings of cranked and distributive shaft, and also to the working surfaces of cylinders.

The pump of cooling liquid is located in a forward part of the block of cylinders and is given to rotation by a maple belt which at the same time sets in motion auxiliary units, namely, the generator, the pump of the power steering and the compressor of the conditioner.

It must be kept in mind that the cooling system of the engine has to be all the year round filled with mix from means for protection against corrosion and freezing, and also the water which is not containing lime. The fan of a radiator has the electric drive. The 6-cylinder engine with the conditioner on a shaft of the pump of cooling liquid in addition has a fan of a radiator which is connected via the viscous coupling at the corresponding temperature. By means of so-called cooling according to characteristics at petrol engines the control system of the engine regulates temperature of opening of the thermostat and engine temperature for achievement of the minimum fuel consumption is optimized.

On all petrol engines the regulation of the moment of ignition watching a detonation is applied.

The electric motor of a radiator can turn on at the idle engine and the switched-off ignition. Owing to existence of a zone of thermal stagnation in a motive compartment it can repeatedly occur. At work in a motive compartment and the warm engine it is necessary to consider a possibility of turning on of the electric fan. Way of elimination: Rasstykuyte fan electric motor socket. For functioning of ignition and preparation of fuel-air mix there is a control system of the engine which is not demanding service that excludes need of adjustment of the moment of ignition or idling within carrying out maintenance.
