Check and replacement of brushes of the generator / regulator of tension

 REMOVAL

1 Disconnect a negative cable (-) of the rechargeable battery at the switched-off ignition. The battery is in a luggage compartment behind a cover on the right side. At the BMW 316i, 318i cars the battery settles down in a motive compartment.

As a result of shutdown of the rechargeable battery data from memory of malfunctions of some monitors are erased. If necessary before shutdown of the battery it is necessary to consider these memories of malfunctions. Address the Section Diagnostics of Malfunctions. Work it is desirable to carry out HUNDRED in conditions.

Bosch generator

2 Take off maple a belt-1-and the generator-2-, address appropriate section.

3 Unscrew three screws of fastening-6-and remove a protective cover-5-.
4 Unscrew two screws of fastening-4 regulators of tension-3-on a back cover of the generator and carefully take out it.

5 Replace-1 brushes-2-on tension regulator if their length makes 5 mm and less. For this purpose unsolder ropes.

6 Check wear of contact rings. If necessary process them and polish.
7 Clear contact surfaces and check rigidity of contact springs, if necessary replace them.


 INSTALLATION

8 Insert brushes - And - and springs - In - into the brush holder - With-. Solder ropes.

9 To exclude hit of solder on ropes of brushes, hold ropes flat-nose pliers.

As a result of hit of solder on ropes the last become unacceptably rigid and unsuitable for installation.

10 Near the place of the soldering of a rope the insulating tube has to be fixed.
11 After installation of new brushes it is necessary to check ease of their course in the brush holder.
12 Fix tension regulator at first manually, and then carefully press in final situation and fix.
13 Fix the protection cover behind the generator.
14 Install the generator, address appropriate section.


VALEO generator

 REMOVAL

15 Remove the generator.
16 Unscrew three screws of fastening and remove a protective cover of the generator.
17 Unscrew two screws of fastening and one nut and take out tension regulator.


 INSTALLATION

18 Install into place the new regulator of tension with an assembly cover and slightly fix it.
19 Remove an assembly cover up.
20 Fix a protective cover.
21 Install the generator.
