Removal and installation of the generator The car has the generator of alternating current. The drive of the generator is carried out from a bent shaft through maple a belt. Depending on model of the car and the equipment generators of various power can be installed. Power is given in the plate strengthened on the generator.

| If later on the car the additional equipment is installed, it is necessary to check whether the power of the installed generator is sufficient. If necessary it is necessary to install the generator of higher power. |
As the rechargeable battery can be charged only from the generator, the alternating voltage of the generator will be transformed by the rectifier in constant by means of a payment of diodes. The regulator of tension changes charging current by means of inclusion and switching off of current of excitement according to degree of state of charge of the rechargeable battery. At the same time the regulator supports to constants working voltage about 14 V, irrespective of speed.

| The generator is a replaceable part. The damaged generator upon purchase of the new or repaired generator is set by the manufacturer off. The old generator needs to be handed over at the same time. |

1 Disconnect a negative cable (-) of the rechargeable battery at the switched-off ignition. The battery is in a luggage compartment behind a cover on the right side. At the BMW 316i, 318i cars the battery settles down in a motive compartment.

| As a result of shutdown of the rechargeable battery data from memory of malfunctions of some monitors are erased. If necessary before shutdown of the battery it is necessary to consider these memories of malfunctions. Address the Section Diagnostics of Malfunctions. Work it is desirable to carry out HUNDRED in conditions. |
2 Close a negative pole of the battery to exclude a possibility of casual contact.
3 Models 316i, 318i, 320i, 323i, 328i: remove a box of the air filter on absorption, address the Section Removal and installation of the air filter of the engine.
4 Models 320i, 323i, 328i with the conditioner: Disconnect the fan with the viscous coupling from the pump of cooling liquid, address the Section Removal and installation of the fan with the viscous coupling.
5 Models 320d: Remove radiator blinds, address the Section Removal and installation of a radiator.
6 Models 320d: Before removal of a maple belt weaken three bolts of fastening on a power steering pump pulley, without turning off them. After removal of a maple belt disconnect a pulley. The pump of the power steering address the Section Removal and installation of the pump of the hydraulic booster.
7 Take off maple a belt, address the Section Removal, installation and a tension of a maple belt.

8 Disconnect and shoot the top rejecting video. |
9 Disconnect a ventilating hose behind the generator if it is available.

10 Turn off a protective cap from a reverse side of the generator. If there are covers of nuts of accessions, remove them. |
11 Uncover. Turn off nuts-1-and remove a thick cable of accession of B+ and thin D+. At the engine 320i, 323i, 328i to a rasstykuyta I will corrode plugs D + from a reverse side of the generator, having pressed at the same time a wire clamp.
12 Turn off a bolt-2 accessions of a negative cable.

13 Turn off fastening bolts (arrows on an illustration) and remove the generator. |

14 Models 316i, 318i: For simplification of installation of the generator press plugs-1-on an engine beam in situation-2-. |

15 Fix the generator, having wrapped fastening bolts the moment of 45 N • m.
The instruction for 316i, 318i: 1 – a carving for the rejecting roller at a hydraulic natyazhitel of a maple belt. If it is established - the carving-1-is not used. |

16 Fix the top rejecting roller.

| At the engine 320i, 323i, 328i the stopper from a provorachivaniye on the holder of the rejecting roller has to enter a groove (the shooter on an illustration) on the generator. |

17 Fix a cable from a reverse side of the generator and join it, address the subsection "Removal". Nuts of M6 drag on the moment of 7 N • m, M8 nuts the moment of 13 N • m.
18 Fix a cover from a reverse side of the generator.
19 Models 320d: Fix a power steering pump pulley. After installation of a maple belt fix a pulley, address the Section Removal and installation of the pump of the hydraulic booster.
20 Establish maple a belt, address the Section Removal, installation and a tension of a maple belt.
21 Models 320d: Establish radiator blinds, address the Section Removal and installation of a fan / casing of the fan.
22 Models 320i, 323i, 328i with the conditioner: fix the fan with the viscous coupling on the pump of cooling liquid, address the Section Removal and installation of the fan with the viscous coupling.
23 Models 316i, 318i, 320i, 323i, 328i: Install a box of the air filter of absorption, address the Section Removal and installation of the air filter of the engine.
24 Attach a negative cable (-) of the rechargeable battery at the switched-off ignition. Establish hours. |
